After two stellar seasons at Georgetown, Allen Iverson declared for the 1996 NBA Draft, selected as the 1st overall pick by the Philadelphia 76ers. “AI” made an immediate impact, becoming the 1996-97 NBA Rookie of the Year thanks to 23.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 7.5 assists, and 2.1 steals per game. In the 2000-01 season, Iverson captured the NBA MVP Award, behind 31.1 points per game as the league's leading scorer. Through 14 NBA seasons, Iverson was an 11-time NBA All-Star and led the league in scoring four times.

Despite his huge impact on the court, Iverson’s cultural impact on the game – from his trademark baggy shorts and corn rows to his devastating crossover – might have been even greater, and today Iverson remains one of the most beloved players in NBA history. With only 36 AI Topps Chrome Refractors having achieved a PSA 10, collectors seek this out specifically as one of the rarest cards in an already competitive rookie card market.

Thesis
Allen Iverson, also known as “AI” or “The Answer,” is remembered as one of the most unique players in the history of the NBA. Despite his small stature, AI was a dominant force, earning him 11 All-Star invites, 2 All-Star MVP awards, a league MVP award (2001), Rookie of the Year (1997). Iverson was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Memorial Hall of Fame in 2016. Some might say his influence was greater than his game. Iverson helped infuse hip-hop culture with basketball, solidifying a "cultural coolness" that was emulated by fans and players around the world, particularly in the ways that they express themselves through their image/fashion. Given that only 36 AI Topps Chrome Refractors have achieved a PSA 10 grade, acquiring one is all the more impressive and valuable.
Recent Sales
The most recent sale of this card in a PSA 10 was $33,633 in December 2020. The 12-month high was $33,633 in December 2020 and the low was $5,000 in April 2020.
Macro Trends
The basketball card market gained significant traction in 2020. Sports Collector Daily noted a 130% spike in sales in 2020, indicating a strong demand for top quality cards. Given the scarcity of highly graded rookie cards from top players, and the amount of people engaged with the category, we are excited about the market's future potential.
Risk
This category has grown significantly this past year, and there is a possibility that such growth is unsustainable. It is also a new category with little historical data.
