Dior and Nike, both legendary brands in their respective fields, collaborated to create the Dior x Air Jordan 1 Low, a celebratory sneaker for the 35th anniversary of Air Jordan and the first official collaboration of its kind . The shoe encapsulates the technical prowess of the Jordan Brand, combined with the craftsmanship and tailoring of the Dior atelier.
The collaboration was announced in late 2019 by Kim Jones, the celebrated Creative Director of Dior Homme. The shoe features the classic Air Jordan 1 silhouette reimagined in shades of white, cream, and grey with a Dior logo jacquard Swoosh -- paying homage to the most iconic elements of both brands with clean lines, supple materials, and powerful branding. Each pair is handmade in the Dior workshop in Italy.
Given that both brands have fanatic followers that span the globe, this drop had an unprecedented cult following: despite less than 5,000 pairs being manufactured, over 5 million people attempted to get their hands on the shoes through the online raffle. By numbers alone, the collaboration is the most highly sought after sneaker release of all time.
The design was spearheaded by Kim Jones, a highly lauded figure in men’s fashion and an avid collector of Air Jordan 1s. Jones has revitalized Dior Homme through exclusive collaborations and imaginative designs. In addition to his creative director role at Dior, Jones was recently named as Karl Lagerfeld’s successor at the helm of Fendi. Jones was assisted on the Dior x Jordan drop by Martin Lotti, VP of Design for the Jordan Brand, and Thibo Denis, head of footwear for Dior Homme.
