Earvin “Magic” Johnson Jr. is widely considered to be the greatest point guard in the history of basketball. Johnson won a total of 5 NBA Championships, 3 Finals MVP awards, and 3 League MVP awards. Magic’s "Converse Weapon" sneakers embody the 1980’s era of the NBA - a time when Converse dominated shoe sponsorships.

In 1987, a prime Magic Johnson wore these exact sneakers in-game, taking home the MVP award and winning his fourth NBA title that same season. Only a few game-worn pairs from any of Magic's championship seasons are known to exist. In fact our game-worn sneaker expert estimates there to be 25-30 pairs of game-worn Magic Johnson sneakers out there, while only 5-6 are from a championship season.

Despite ending his career early in 1991, Johnson is remembered as one of the greats, and these sneakers will continue to represent his most iconic season in the NBA (1986-1987).

The Shoes
Magic’s "Converse Weapon" sneakers embody the 1980’s era of basketball--a time when Converse dominated shoe sponsorships. Our game-worn sneaker expert estimates there to be 25-30 pairs of game-worn Magic Johnson sneakers out there, while only 5-6 are from a championship season. This pair also features Johnson's signature, adding to overall collectability and scarcity.
Recent Sales
Our purchase at auction for $20,400 in January 2021 is the most recent sale for a Magic Johnson game-worn championship season sneaker. Prior to that, the last public sale was in February 2013 for $7,170. Unlike Otis’ pair, this pair was not signed.
Cultural Significance
Earvin Johnson Jr., better known as Magic Johnson, is widely considered to be the best point guard of all time. After being drafted 1st overall in 1979, Johnson led the Los Angeles Lakers to an NBA Championship his rookie season, earning his first NBA Finals MVP. Over the remainder of his 13-year career, Johnson won a total of 5 NBA Championships, 3 Finals MVP awards and 3 League MVP awards. Despite ending his career early in 1991, Johnson is remembered as one of the greats, and these sneakers will continue to represent his most iconic season in the NBA.
Risk
Despite still maintaining close ties with the Lakers, Magic Johnson is no longer an active player. Limited future catalysts or declining overall relevance could negatively impact the value of his memorabilia.
