📰 In the Headlines

Pussy Riot is helping to coordinate a DAO to raise money for Ukraine’s army

• Russian art collective Pussy Riot has teamed up with PleasrDAO to raise money for Ukrainian soldiers fighting against Russia. UkraineDAO has already raised more than $6m in Ethereum.

• UkraineDAO is also raising funds through the sale of a 1/1 NFT of the Ukrainian flag. It plans to donate the funds it raises to Come Back Alive, a non-profit supporting the country’s military.

Fun Fact: The DAO isn’t the only organization in Ukraine to ask for funds via crypto. Ukraine’s government posted on Twitter last week asking for donations in Bitcoin and Ethereum. So far, the government has received more than $15m in donations.

Collecting Negro League baseball cards, the rarest sports cards around

• The Negro League, a baseball league that was formed for minority players excluded from the MLB, never had official trading cards in the U.S. The only cards that were made came from Latin America, making them extremely rare.

• To fill their collections, collectors have to go abroad. Negro League players would play in Latin America in the off-season, and producers there made sports cards for local fans. But that market is far more fragmented, making collecting difficult.

Fun Fact: One collector has been working for almost 3 decades to create a complete collection. His collection has ultra-rare (and incredibly valuable) cards like the 1910 Pop Lloyd, one of just two in existence. The other sold for $100k.

A meticulously restored vintage Porsche just sold for $4m at auction

• A 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder sold for around $4.2m at auction, according to Bonhams. The car has a racing history and was recently brought back to its former glory in a 5-year restoration project.

• These Porsches are considered incredibly valuable because they were the company’s first official racing car. After several races, this particular car was sold to a collector, who held onto it for half a century.

Fun Fact: The restoration, which began in 1998 and was completed in 2003, involved a complete strip-down and repair job. Every detail of the restoration was recorded in two binders, which were sold along with the vehicle.

🔥 From the Otis Collection

• A 1st edition Charizard Pokémon card (1999 Holo PSA 10) sold for $336k this week at Heritage Auctions. Otis dropped the card at a market cap of $236.8k in October. The card will open for trading next Tuesday, 3/15 at 10:30am ET.

• Brooklyn Nets Kevin Durant became the 23rd player to join the NBA’s 25,000 point club on Sunday.  Kevin Durant's Brooklyn Nets Debut Jersey is trading on Otis.

• The Seattle Seahawks have agreed to trade quarterback Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos in exchange for a number of key players and draft picks. A signed Russell Wilson Rookie Card (2012 National Treasures Rookie Signature Material Black #325 /25 BGS 9.5) is trading on Otis.
